Doctor: No such thing as medical marijuana
By Dan Schenek
.

Two years ago, little Cash Hyde endured bouts of chemotherapy that made him sick while battling stage 4 brain cancer.

He didn't eat for 40 days, and was vomiting severely. His parents Kalli and Mike Hyde asked doctors to take Cash off his anti-nausea and pain medications and secretly gave him cannabis oil, made from marijuana.

What they did was illegal; however, 3-year-old Cash is in remission and doing well.

Dr. Stuart Gitlow, the President of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, told HLN's Dr. Drew Monday night that he doesn’t think this demonstrates that the drug really works.

“What it demonstrates is that Cash got better about the same time he was administered marijuana,” Gitlow said.

He added, “There's no such thing at this point as medical marijuana. Marijuana has not yet been shown to have an acceptable medical use. Until we study it properly, we won't know the bottom line answer whether or not to use it or some form of it.”
